Mechanical machines offer limited stitch selection due to space limitations require by cams, trackers, and various levers. During the 1950s through 1970's, this seemed a non issue. The sewing machine could do so much, how could anyone want more. With the advent of computerized sewing machine, however, 100, 500, 1,000 unique stitches became real.
